Department of Respiratory Medicine conducted “DPU Pulmonary Update- 2016”on 1st & 2nd October 2016. The “Sleep Medicine workshop” was conducted on 1st October 2016 by Dr. M. S. Barthwal & Dr. Raja Yarra Ramakrishanan who has 16 years’ experience in Sleep Medicine. The workshop was attended by 40 Delegates& was highly appreciated.

The CME was conducted by eminent speakers of national repute including HOD’s Pulmonary Medicine Department of AIIMS & PGI. The CME was attended by 160 delegates. The dignitaries from AIIMS & PGI Visited the new hospital complex & were highly impressed. HOD PGI Chandigarh mentioned in visitors book that why government set up cannot be like this.

The department of Microbiology & department of Respiratory Medicine jointly conducted a Integrated Teachingprogramme topic “Molecular diagnosis in TB” on 2nd February 2016 from 2 pm to 4 pm at Microbiology Department.

Fibrotic Bronchoscopy Handling & Maintains workshop was conducted on 13th December 2015 from 9 am to 2 pm in the department of Respiratory Medicine. The workshop was conducted by senior technical officer from Olympus, Bombay. The aim of the workshop was to familiarize residents & junior faculty about the intricate components of bronchoscope, its handling cleaning, disinfection & sterilization.

Dr. M.S. Barthwal was attended NAPCON 26th November 2016. He was awarded fellowship of Indian chest society (FICS)at this conference.

Dr. M.S. Barthwal attended NAPCON 2017 at Kolkata from 17/11/2017 to 19/11/2017. He was award best ‘Letter to Editor’ award by Indian chest society. He also took part as panelist & Chairperson..

Dr. MahaFarat, MD MSC, Assistant Professor, Department of Biomedical Informatics Assistant Physician Pulmonary and Critical Care delivered a talk on “Whole Genome Sequencing to diagnose Drug Resistant TB”at our department.

Medico-Social Activities
  1. Poster competition on the theme of “Green Diwali” done on 20th October 2014 in collaboration with College of Nursing Street play organized on the same occasion.
  2. World TB Day, 24th March 2015 was celebrated and Street play organized on the same occasion. Lecture was delivered on “What is the Risk of TB for Health Care Workers” by Dr. Tushar Sahasrabudhe.
  3. World No Tobacco Day, 1st June 2015 was celebrated.
  4. On the event of World TB Day (22nd March 2016) Department of Respiratory Medicine arranged a poster display in OPD complex for educating patients regarding Tuberculosis. The importance of DOTS in Pulmonary Tuberculosis was conveyed through a play in the OPD complex. The play enacted by Dr. Sudhir Dahitankar, TB Health Visitor Hanumant & Lab technician Preeti. Dr. M. S. Barthwal, Professor & HOD was invited as a speaker in CME at YCM Hospital on 22nd March 2016. He spoke on the topic of “Pitfalls in the management of Tuberculosis.” The same talk was also arranged for faculty& residents in college auditorium on 23rd March 2016.

5. On the event of ‘World TB Day’ on 24th March 2017 Department of Respiratory Medicine arranged a poster display in OPD complex for educating patients regarding Stop TB. We arranged RNTCP sensitization programme for sweepers & their supervisors. A talk was delivered by Dr. Sudhir Dahitankar, Medical Officer, RNTCP on 29th March 2017. We had also arranged a seminar for all the faculties & PG students in our college auditorium. Dr. M. S. Barthwal, Professor & HOD & Dr. Nitin Gaikwad, Professor talked on the topic of “Pitfalls in the management of tuberculosis”. Dr. Sudhir Dahitankar, Medical Officer, RNTCP spoke on the topic of “RNTCP updates & daily regimen on 3th April 2017".

6. Dr. Kirti Yadav & Dr. Mahavir Bagrecha received the first prize for poster titled “Association between BMI and Asthma Severity”.

7. Pulmonology Update 2017 was conducted on Sunday, 21st May 2017 at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College in collaboration with Department of Respiratory Medicine & Indian Medical Association (Pimpri, Chinchwad, Bhosari Branch).
