About the Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College Hospital and Research Centre was established in 1996. It offers courses like MBBS, MD Pathology, Fellowship in Surgical Pathology and PhD course. The department caters to 250 MBBS students and 14 postgraduates per year with one of the best infrastructure.
There is highly qualified, experienced and dedicated teaching faculty as well as supporting staff.
We have well equipped teaching aids which includes smart boards, LCD projectors, digital, deca-head, penta-head microscope and immunofluroscence microscope.
It has a state of art pathology museum along with digital display of microscopic photographs and museum catalogues.
The department has a fully automated NABL accredited Central Clinical Laboratory (CCL) and histopathology unit. Facilities for intra operative frozen section, cytology, hematology and blood banking are also offered. The advanced diagnostic modalities like immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and flow cytometry are also available.
Department caters to molecular diagnostic work up in collaboration with extra mural diagnostic facilities.
Several intra as well extra mural research projects have been completed and are undergoing in the department.
