Eye Bank

Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College Pimpri, Pune has an established Eye Bank recognized by Government of Maharashtra & by National Eye Bank Association of India. 144 volunteers are already registered for Eye donation. Many patients are already waiting for treatment using donated eyes.

First such treatment (corneal transplantation/ Keratoplasty) has been successfully done in Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College & Hospital by Dr. R. P. Gupta & his team on 29th April 2011 on a 59 years old patient, Patient was found very happy on the first postoperative day. 2nd corneal transplantation was done on 2^nd May 2011 on a 70 years old female.

Eye bank of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College & Hospital is fully functional. Any volunteer for eye donation is welcomed to register with Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College & Hospital Eye Bank. Eyes from the deceased are required to removed within 6hrs of the death of an individual. Our Eye team of doctors reaches the place for the collection of eyes immediately within an hour of information.
