Dr. Bhagyashree Patil has donned many hats in her expansive career. She is an educationist, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She is the Pro-Chancellor of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Society, Pune and Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, Pune and the Founder Chairperson of Rise n' Shine Biotech Pvt. Ltd.

The ubiquitous educationist and entrepreneur is always known for her indomitable spirit and her penchant to work for the betterment of society. She wanted to make our country, India self-reliant and a leader amongst nations. To do that, Dr. Patil knew that education and healthcare should be easily accessible to the masses.

Today, under her able guidance, Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre and Rise n' Shine Biotech Pvt. Ltd has reached the acme of excellence. She runs these organizations as she lives her life: with generosity, compassion and thoughtfulness.

Family Background

Dr. Patil belongs to the illustrious family of Padamshree Dr. D. Y. Patil. Dr. D. Y. Patil, the then Governor of Tripura, Bihar and West Bengal, is the Founder of Dr. D. Y. Patil education societies in Pune, Mumbai and Kolhapur.She is the wife of Dr. P. D. Patil, the Chancellor of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Society, Pune and Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, Pune. Coming from a rural background, Dr. Patil, from her childhood, had evinced an interest to work for the downtrodden and oppressed women. She wanted to make their lives better and meaningful by making them economically independent so that they can sustain themselves and their family. To do that, the effervescent lady realized that education matters. It is the key to the future. Through education, one can get empowered and bring the required change to their lives. She set her plans rolling and has been successful in her endeavour. Today, at Rise n' Shine facility at Theur, there are 90 percent skilled women workers. In fact, her initiatives and efforts have given a boost to the rural agrarian community.

Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth Society, Pune

A lady with strong will power and determination, Dr. Patil's main mission was to work for the betterment of the Institutes and take it to the next level.

Today, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune is considered to be one of the best educational institutes across the country and the world. Along with the Institutes, she wanted to enrich the knowledge and expand the vision of the faculty. She believes that teachers are the enlightened ones! They not only educate but also contribute to the social and emotional growth of the students. The lady with the invincible verve has been instrumental in introducing and implementing many constructive and socially relevant programs, in the various colleges and institutes of the University.

In all India NIRF ranking 2019, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (Deemed to be University) has secured the 20th rank in Medical category, 46th rank in University category and 70th rank in Overall category.

Initiatives launched

Initially, when she joined the organization she focused on a clean campus, administration and patient care in the Dr. D. Y. Patil College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune. Today, the pristine environment of the Campus, the patients making a beeline to the Hospital& Research Centre speaks volume of her success and the transformation she has brought in. Under her guidance in the Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre Departments of Cardiology, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Plastic Surgery and Paediatric Surgery were established. New Courses like Ph.D., Fellowship in clinical specialities, M. Sc. and Certificate Courses in Clinical specialities also commenced.

• Re-accredited by NAAC with 3.62 CGPA on a four-point scale at A Grade
• ISO 9001:2008 certification for Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth and its constituent Colleges
• In all India NIRF  ranking 2019, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune (Deemed to be University) has secured the 20^th rank in Medical category, 46th rank in University category and 70^th rank in Overall category.
• Adjudged the best Medical College among the top 10 Medical Institutes of India by an independent survey conducted by Pioneer and North East SUN. As per the survey conducted by India Today in 2017, the Medical College achieved the 2^nd rank amongst India’s Top Medical Colleges. It was also included in the 5 STAR Categories in 2016 and 2017.
• ERP System comprising of various modules viz. academics, hostel management, faculty management, student management, accounts, communication, library management, preparatory examination, admission management, alumni management, stores and inventory, HR and Payroll were started.
• The College has been recognized by Government Agencies for clinical multicentric trails. In the International scene, it has been recognised by  the Harvard Medical School Centre for Global Health delivery Dubai and John Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. In the National scene, it has been recognized by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO), Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jeevandai Arogya Yojana and Revised National Tuberculosis Control programme.

Milestones Achieved

• In the last 3 years, seed money worth Rs.97, 36,000/- has been given to faculty to pursue research work.
• Started various consultancy projects. The revenue generated from 21 Consultancies in the last 3 years ;is 13,58,93,039/-
• Institutional incentives of Rs.8, 45,137 given in the last 5 years to teachers for receiving State, National and International recognition/awards.
• In the last 3 years, the College has received research grants of Rs. 42, 60,938/- for external research projects.
• In a short span of 8 years, the number of hospital beds has increased from 1180 in 2010 to 2000 in 2018.
• The hi-tech hospital has procured 150 Intensive Care beds, 30 futuristic Operating Theatres (Maquet and Dragger) with advanced technology, 80 specialized outpatient consultation suites, 4^th generation Da Vinci xi Robot for Robotic Surgery, Twin Cath Lab, 3 CT Scan machines (128 slice,16 slice and dual slice), 3 MRI machines (0.2, 1.5T and 3T), Digital X-rays, Digital mammography, PACS, multi-organ transplantation facility, liver intensive care unit facility, etc.
• Started basic Human Milk Bank -Yashoda Human Milk Bank in September 2013 and the Advanced Milk Bank in January 2019.
• Started the renal transplant facility. Till date, The Nephrology and Neurosurgery department has performed more than 35 successful renal transplants.
• The facilities for angiography, angioplasty, cardiovascular surgery, etc. have been incorporated.
• Free of cost, health services are provided to the needy like OPD services, diagnostic and imaging services, indoor stay, full-day meals and operation and emergencies services.
• Since 2012 for needy and poor people, health insurance scheme for BPL patients with Govt. of Maharashtra has been implemented under “ Jyotiba Phule Jeevandai Arogya Yojana.

Dr. Patil established it in 2004 and since then the Group has created a stir across the country and the world. The flagship company of the Rise n' Shine Group is Rise n' Shine Biotech Pvt Ltd. The main premise of establishing this organization is to support the agriculture sector with special emphasis on horticulture and floriculture. It is also working towards becoming the numero uno across the world as the unparalleled facility in Tissue Culture. Down the years, the Group has grown exponentially and has become one of the global leaders in Plant Tissue Culture.

Under Dr. Patil’s guidance, the organization has built up an excellent and dedicated team that implements the best practices and latest techniques for production and cultivation. This application-based approach custom designs the solution around specific requirements of the farmer. It covers the entire spectrum from basic to the latest solutions for high tech needs of the plant tissue culture. She propagates the best practices and cutting edge technology without compromising on quality.

Rise n' Shine Biotech is an ISO 9001-2015 Certified Company. It is the only Tissue Culture Company to be recognized by the Department of Biotechnology and the Directorate of Scientific & Industrial Research, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.

The company has made left an indelible mark in interrelated multiple segments like biotechnology, floriculture and horticulture. It is a global producer and exporter of quality plants of international standard in over 30 countries. What sets Rise n' Shine apart from others in the fraternity is the various facilities and the quality standards that are being maintained. For instance, the cold storage units and world-class logistical facilities are worth mentioning. It has enabled the company to preserve exacting consistency standards, but also meet logistical demands effectively, ensuring timely deliveries to far corners of the globe. The company enjoys a high international reputation in Cold Chain and post-harvest management techniques. The organization at Theur has 105,000 sq. ft. state- of- the -art tissue culture laboratory Dr. Patil has an impressive network! She has forged collaborative alliances with reputed global companies like Dummen Orange Group of Companies which includes Fides from Netherlands, Barbaret & Blanc from Spain, Bock Bioscience from Germany and Darwin Plants which is a subsidiary of Ball Horticulture Inc, USA.

Research & Development

The Rise n' Shine headquarters at Theur boasts of 6,000 sq. ft. avant-garde Research & Development laboratory. The main idea of setting up this laboratory is to carry out need-based research that would improve the quality of plants and maintain the genetic purity of commercial crops. The eco-friendly laboratory agars waste disposal through degradation by friendly microorganisms. Till now, the research work that has been carried out in the facility has focused on providing integrated solutions to accelerate the progress of biotechnology in the field of agriculture. The genetic fidelity testing facilities guarantee the purity of the strains. For instance, the development of disease-resistant banana plants is one of the major research programs in progress. Other ongoing projects include the propagation protocols of endangered indigenous plant species like the pitcher plant and other unique varieties that are only found in the Kaas valley. Research work is also going on for micro-propagation of tea and coffee plants and olive plants for future commercial application

Especially for women & children

Rise n’ Shine believes in the fundamental principle that women should pursue their dreams. It has initiated programmes to encourage and empower women to achieve in various ways. Presently in the organization, there is about 700 women staff, out of which 95 percent has been recruited from rural areas. The Company provides a healthy work environment and focuses on their medical needs, educational requirement and financial requisites. At the organization, women employees are also initiated about-BachatGhat, relating to various saving schemes. Under this scheme, women are also assisted in procuring loans if need it.

Besides that, the company also distributes books and uniforms annually to students in nearby schools. Rural women are encouraged to work and contribute to the earnings of the family. They are also taught how to balance their personal and professional life. In fact, family counselling is a continuous work in progress. They are given technical training in the production process. After their training, they become adroit in handling technical production and have become indispensable assets of Rise n' Shine.

The lady with a mission has been conferred innumerable awards and accolades for her significant contributions. Some of the noteworthy awards and recognition, Dr. Patil has received so far are- Adarsh Aai award (2018), Indian Agribusiness excellence award for Women Empowerment (2017), Krishi Kanya (2017), The Government of Maharashtra Entrepreneurial Award (2018), Agri-Horticulture Society of Western India and Fastest Growing Indian Company Award, Bangkok, Thailand (2015), Yashwant Venu award ( 2015), Udhavshri Award (2015) and Rajiv Gandhi award (2005).
