UG - Mentorship (2020-2021)

PG Teaching Programme

(W.E.F. 02/01/2021)

In ward day of every unit there will be one day academics ward round by HOU of the unit. Resident of other unit can also join if they are free.

Any faculty changing their programme should inform at least 48 hrs. Before.

Note: All concerned HOU & Faculty member must be present on their respective days to encourage their residents to attend with full strength.

UG - Objectives:-

5^th Semester –

1. Students must be able to take relevant points in the history

2. Clinical examination to diagnose fractures and deformities.

3. Evaluations done by post term completion examinations

6^th Semester –

1. Students must know the basic physiology of fracture healing, types of fractures and complication of fractures.

2. Basic principles of plaster techniques and complications.

3. Lectures on injuries of upper limb.

7^th Semester –

1. Lectures on injuries of lower extremities.

2. Clinically, Student must be able to examine & diagnose common diseases of upper limb.

8^th Semester –

1. Students are taught about injuries of the pelvis and spine.

2. Common congenital anomalies

3. Common arthritic conditions, neoplastic & neurological conditions like poliomyelitis, cerebral palsy etc

4. Theoretical knowledge regarding chronic & acute infection of bone & joints

5. During their clinical posting they are taught to examine various orthopedic conditions of spine.

9^th Semester –

1. Tutorial & Lectures include revision of all orthopaedic conditions & diseases.

2. In Clinical posting, they are trained to examination various orthopaedic conditions involving bones & joints by taking history, clinical examination & relevant investigations

3. Evaluation done by post-term completion examination.

3. Integration:-

1. Lectures for 6,7,8,9 semesters
2. Revision lectures for 9 semester
3. Tutorials for 8,9 semester
4. Bed side for clinics for 5,6,7,8,9 semester followed by term end exam

UG - Mentorship (2019-2020)

PG - Objective

OBJECTIVES:-

M.S.Orthopaedics

1^ST TERM

1. History taking & clinical examination of patients attending orthopaedics OPD & admitted in wards.

2. Plaster technique & removal of plaster cast.

3. Operation theatre discipline.

2^nd TERM

1. Dressing, debridement & suturing of wounds.

2. Intra-articular injection techniques.

3^rd TERM

1. Application of various traction (skin/skeletal)

2. Management of crush injury & compound fracture. (Primary Care)

4^th TERM

1. Closed Reduction & K-wire fixation of fractures.

5^th TERM

1. Open Reduction & fracture fixation of upper extremity.

6^th TERM

1. Open Reduction & internal fixation of lower extremity.

2. Assisting senior faculty for spine, hip replacement surgery & deformity correction.

2: TRAINING SCHEDULE:-

The residents are working full time in the department of Orthopaedic. There responsibilities are to take care of the patients in the wards, attend clinics and operation theatre. They are actively involved in the academic and research activities of the department.

During first year the residents are posted in orthopaedics wards and in emergency. Under the supervision of his senior colleagues, he will attend emergency and will take care of the patients in the ward. He will be given a thesis topic and will start with his thesis work. At the end of first year he should be able to do History taking & clinical examination of patients attending orthopaedics OPD & admitted in wards, Plaster technique & removal of plaster cast, Operation theatre discipline, dressing, debridement & suturing of wounds, Intra-articular injection techniques.

During second year the residents are rotated for two weeks in surgical Intensive Care Unit, surgery, physiotherapy and radiology. At the end of second year he should be able to do Application of various traction (skin/skeletal), Management of crush injury & compound fracture (Primary Care), Closed Reduction & K-wire fixation of fractures.

During third year the residents are responsible to take care of patients in the wards, attend clinic, attend emergency in casualty. At the end of third year he should be able to do Open Reduction & fracture fixation of upper extremity, Open Reduction & internal fixation of lower extremity, Assisting senior faculty for spine, hip replacement surgery & deformity correction.
